Inauguration Ceremony

The Memory of Ehden-Zgharta Association launching ceremony took place at Al-Kubra Archaeological Center in Ehden on the 3rd of August 2023, with the collaboration of the Municipality of Zgharta-Ehden and the Phoenix Center for Lebanese Studies at the Holy Spirit University – Kaslik.

The ceremony consisted of a symposium on the memory and an exhibition of black-and-white photographs from the collection of writer Mohsen A. Yamin in the cellars of the Al-Kubra Archaeological Center in Ehden, tt also launched its new website.

The inauguration was attended by MP Michel Douaihy, former minister Roni Araiji and Founder of the Association of Memory of Ehden-Zgharta Bassam Yammine, former MP Qaisar Moawad, member of the Municipal Council of Zgharta-Ehden and Dr. George Dahdah, Father Sarkis Al-Tabar and a crowd of cultural and literary figures and civil associations.

The ceremony began with Miryam Abchi welcoming the crowd followed by Samih Zaatar explaining the goals that led to the establishment of the Association and its objectives, and introducing its founding body.

Dr. Issam Khalifa spoke about importance of the memory and its relationship with the identity of the village, the writer and historian Yamin discussed the importance of the photographic legacy left by the pioneers in the region, and Professor Carlos Abi Younes discussed the techniques of preserving the historical memory and its importance for future generations.

The attendees then went on a tour discovering the photographic exhibition of writer Yammine entitled “Al Souwar Shazaya Ishkiha”, showcasing Ehden’s chronicles and faces that left us.
